OUR LAND

Our land is flat, sheltered by hills to the north, creating environmental conditions ideal for cultivating raisins, vineyards, early vegetables, and olive groves.
For centuries, dozens of sheep flocks have harmoniously coexisted among the olive groves.
Our geographical location boasts abundant water and fertile soils. Our land was chosen by the Venetians for the construction of an irrigation network on the Valyra River, which irrigated hundreds of acres of fertile land and powered two flour mills, one operating in summer and the other in winter.
The locals take pride in the cooperative they developed before the war for rice cultivation, as well as in their amateur theatre group, which performed notable plays.

Over the past 60 years, olive cultivation has rapidly developed as a primary production activity. The younger generations of growers, more educated and demanding, keep up with modern advancements, blending them with the traditions of their grandparents, shaping a promising future.
Our olives in the plains have their roots nourished by the ‘sea’ water, while their branches on the hills ‘face’ the Messinian Gulf and are influenced by its breeze.
This unique interaction of soil, climate, and human care gives our olive trees a distinctive character. With respect for nature and traditional practices, supported by modern knowledge, we cultivate fruits that produce olive oil rich in flavor, high in nutritional value, and marked by exceptional quality.

Our olive trees are grafted onto wild olive rootstocks, using buds from the renowned local variety “Koroneiki” — considered by many to be the finest. This unique combination, along with the microclimate described earlier, yields olive oil and Kalamata olives with a rich and balanced flavor—fruity, bitter, and spicy—accompanied by a bouquet of aromatic herbs.
For thousands of years, the hills have given rise to wild olive trees, and people have been grafting them with our native variety.
Natural and human disasters (fires, Ibrahim’s invasion, etc.) cannot stop this cycle. The roots of the wild olive trees lie hidden beneath the soil throughout the years, generously bestowed upon us since the time of Homer, to nurture each time with love and dedication.
